OXNARD, Calif. – New Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer also doubles as the team’s offensive play caller, so he wasn’t able to watch his defense during Tuesday’s joint practice against the Los Angeles Rams.
Following a thorough review of the practice film, Schottenheimer noted a concerning realization: the Dallas defense did not generate any takeaways against the Rams’ offense. This leads to Schottenheimer advocating patience as there are still three preseason games left on the exhibition slate.
“We did not get any takeaways on defense,” Schottenheimer remarked on Tuesday. “That’s something this defense is going to need to excel. I truly believe that.”
Despite the challenges, Parsons remains influential behind the scenes, acting as a mentor during his contract standoff. The standout defensive player is providing support to teammates and helping them improve during training camp practices, even while he’s sidelined.
Coach Whitecotton expressed, “He has been fantastic, inserting himself into position meetings and guiding younger players. He’s taken guys under his wing, assisting them on how to tackle issues in practice. It’s been invaluable for the team.”
While Parsons’ absence from the field is notable, he continues to contribute positively, showcasing his leadership qualities and commitment to his teammates, aiming to have them perform better.
The concern remains about when Parsons will return to full fieldwork, but all signs suggest he is preparing diligently for the moment he rejoins the team.
