San Antonio Spurs and De'Aaron Fox Finalize $228 Million Contract Extension

De'Aaron Fox secures a significant contract extension with the Spurs, emphasizing his importance to the team moving forward.

San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox has finalized a four-year, $228 million maximum contract extension, according to a source familiar with the situation, who requested anonymity as the team has not yet made an official announcement.

Fox is currently in the last year of his initial five-year, $163 million agreement. The new extension will commence in the 2026-27 season.

This contract extension was anticipated following the Spurs’ high-profile acquisition of Fox from the Sacramento Kings at last season’s trade deadline. Over his eight seasons in the NBA, Fox holds an impressive average of 21.5 points and 6.1 assists per game. Last season, he averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists during 17 matches with the Spurs.

The Spurs are aiming for a stronger position within the Western Conference as they integrate Fox with young talents like Victor Wembanyama, the previous year’s rookie of the year Stephon Castle, and the recent No. 2 pick Dylan Harper.

Despite finishing 34-48 last season, lagging behind the play-in spot occupied by the Mavericks, they appear ready to make significant progress. Wembanyama is expected to return this upcoming season following a health setback.
