Joe Mazzulla Signs Multi-Year Contract Extension with Celtics

The Boston Celtics secure head coach Joe Mazzulla with a multi-year contract extension, emphasizing their long-term commitment to his leadership.

The Boston Celtics have confirmed their commitment to head coach Joe Mazzulla by signing him to a multi-year contract extension. This announcement comes after consistent affirmations from Celtics president Brad Stevens regarding their desire for Mazzulla to lead the team long-term.

Mazzulla expressed his gratitude in a statement: “This is a blessing. I would not be here without my faith, my wife, and my children. We are thankful for our partnership with our ownership groups, Brad’s mentorship, and the support from our staff. I look forward to competing for the Celtics and the city of Boston.

The 37-year-old coach has successfully guided the Celtics to the playoffs in every season since he took over, including clinching the franchise’s 18th NBA title last season. He was notably the youngest coach to win an NBA championship since Bill Russell in the 1968-69 season.

Under Mazzulla’s leadership, the Celtics have won at least 57 games each season, surpassing 60 victories in the last two seasons. Though the specifics of his new contract haven’t been disclosed, it follows a series of extensions since he was named head coach in February 2023 after Ime Udoka was suspended.

Stevens praised Mazzulla, emphasizing his passion for the team, which mirrors the enthusiasm of their most dedicated fans.
