One of the most exciting title fights in mixed martial arts history has received the prestigious honor of being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
Israel Adesanya’s unanimous decision victory over Kelvin Gastelum in 2019 for the interim middleweight title at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta showcased remarkable heart and determination. The bout was the co-main event of UFC 236, occurring just before another thrilling match between Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway.
The fight electrified the audience, winning the title of 2019’s best fight, as both fighters displayed relentless resolve, continually shifting momentum throughout the rounds. In the iconic final round, Adesanya dominated while mouthing, “I’m ready to die in here” toward Gastelum.
UFC announced the induction during the live telecast of UFC 312 from Sydney, Australia. Seated cageside, Adesanya embraced UFC executives when informed of the honor, expressing his eagerness for a rematch.
The 2025 UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is set for this summer in Las Vegas during International Fight Week, streamed live on UFC Fight Pass.
“The fight between Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 236 was one of the greatest fights I’ve ever seen in my life,” said White, UFC’s president. “This was an absolute war for the interim title. Congratulations to Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum on a fight that will always be remembered!”
Adesanya took on Gastelum just two months after defeating Anderson Silva, with the vacant title arising after then-champion Robert Whittaker withdrew from his scheduled defense due to health concerns.
