Rory McIlroy Reveals He Collected 1,100 Pin Flags from The Masters Shop After Completing His Career Grand Slam

McIlroy shares his excitement about signing flags and reflects on his recent Masters victory.

Rory McIlroy took some souvenirs from Augusta National after clinching his Masters victory. At the end of the tournament, The Masters Shop had 1,100 pin flags left in stock, and McIlroy said he took every last one with the aim of signing his name inside the logo—a tradition only for Masters champions.

McIlroy rounded off his career grand slam by securing an elusive Masters title in April, defeating Justin Rose in the playoff’s first hole to don the green jacket.

“It’s been a lot,” McIlroy reflected regarding signing the countless flags. “But I’ll never get sick of signing them. I’ve waited 17 years to sign that flag in the middle, and I will never complain about doing it.”

The time McIlroy devotes to signing the 1,100 flags he gathered from Augusta National might even rival the duration he has worn his green jacket, but that hasn’t happened so far.

Despite the variable performance in recent months, including a tied second finish at the Scottish Open and not making the cut at the Canadian Open and finishing in 47th place at the PGA Championship; McIlroy enters this week’s Tour Championship as one of the top favorites alongside Scottie Scheffler.
