The Pittsburgh Steelers’ defensive lineman Cameron Heyward has returned to practice after a hold-in that lasted nearly two weeks, which took place during contract negotiations. Heyward’s involvement in practice does not suggest any advancement in reaching a new contract agreement.
Reports indicate Heyward engaged in individual practice sessions, as Steelers’ coach Mike Tomlin confirmed his participation in team drills. Currently, Heyward’s contract has two years left, with a salary of $14.75 million this season, and $14.5 million in 2026. The market for defensive linemen has shifted dramatically this offseason, prompting Heyward to seek adjustments to his deal.
With the regular season approaching, Heyward has expressed readiness to remain out until a satisfactory deal is made. He stated, “Honestly, I’d love to be valued. I know what I bring to this team and what I’m capable of, on and off the field. So, it’s hard for me to justify playing at the number I’m playing at.”
Teammates Jalen Ramsey and Darius Slay have voiced their support for Heyward, both urging the Steelers’ management to meet his demands. Ramsey noted, “We need all of y’all out there, man. We’ve got potential to do something great if we’ve got all our guys out there happy and feeling like they’re valued.”
Additionally, Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf, who also appeared on Heyward’s podcast, humorously addressed his hold-in situation.
