Coco Gauff recently made headlines after parting ways with her coach Matthew Daly in the wake of a disappointing performance at Wimbledon after her triumph at the French Open. Now ranked third in the world, she seeks to revitalize her game as she approaches the US Open. Gauff had expressed her struggles, attributing her first-round loss at Wimbledon to mental fatigue, noting that she had difficulty managing her game with six winners compared to 29 unforced errors during her match against Dayana Yastremska.
“Only have good things to say about Coco, enjoyed working with her,” said Matthew Daly in an interview with tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg.
Coco’s recent performances have raised concerns about her confidence, especially with her serve, although she did manage three victories in the Cincinnati Open before succumbing to Jasmine Paolini in the fourth round.
Last week in Cincinnati, Coco remarked on her focus on practicing patience throughout the season. “For me, it’s trying to forget the losses, but more so remembering how I lost,” she stated. Gauff previously ended her partnership with coach Brad Gilbert before hiring Daly, who was known as a grip specialist. With her eyes set on competing again, Gauff is expected to participate in an exhibition match at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Thursday night.
