Welcome to the Thursday edition of the Pick Six newsletter!

The countdown is officially on: As of today, we are exactly two weeks away from the start of the 2025 season, which reminds me, if you’re in a Fantasy league, that means you have just 14 days to get your draft done. I’m in four different leagues and have done exactly zero drafts, because they haven’t been scheduled yet. I need to wake up my league commissioners to get the drafts organized. In the meantime, here’s today’s newsletter.

1. Two preseason games are happening tonight: Here are two reasons to watch each one

The final week of preseason kicks off tonight with two games:

• Steelers at Panthers (7 p.m. ET, NFL Network)

  • Panthers: There’s a kicking battle. Matthew Wright and rookie Ryan Fitzgerald are competing for the kicking job. Fitzgerald has made two field goals with a long of 52, while Wright is 0-for-1 this preseason.
  • Steelers: Jalen Ramsey and the starting defense will play. Mike Tomlin will field several defensive starters, including Ramsey, marking his debut after a June trade.

• Patriots at Giants (8 p.m. ET, Amazon Prime)

  • Patriots: Another kicking competition looms between Andy Borregales and John Parker Romo, with both performing well so far in the preseason.
  • Giants: Deonte Banks is locked in but faces competition from Cor’Dale Flott and newcomer Paulson Adebo for cornerback roles.

2. Four trades went down on Wednesday: Skyy Moore shipped out West, Jets make two deals

It’s been quiet for weeks, but four trades opened floodgates on Wednesday:

• 49ers-Chiefs Trade: 49ers get: WR Skyy Moore, 2027 seventh-round pick

  • Chiefs get: 2027 sixth-round pick

• Broncos-Saints Trade: Saints get: WR Devaughn Vele

  • Broncos get: 2026 fourth-round pick, 2027 seventh-round pick

In other trade news, the Jets were busy on Wednesday with two trades:

• Jets-Vikings Trade: Jets get: DT Harrison Phillips and 2027 seventh-round pick

  • Vikings get: 2026 sixth-round pick, 2027 sixth-round pick

• Jets-Browns Trade: Jets get: DT Jowon Briggs, 2027 seventh-round pick

  • Browns get: 2026 sixth-round pick

Acquiring Phillips is significant as he’s expected to start in Week 1.

3. QB2 Matchmaker: Exploring Landing Spots for Jameis Winston and Other Backup QBs

As the NFL preseason wraps up, several teams have quarterback rooms with potential cut candidates. The Giants, currently featuring Russell Wilson, Jaxson Dart, and Jameis Winston, are anticipated to keep only two of them. If a trade occurs, Winston could be on the move.

4. Anthony Richardson’s Landing Spots: Possible Futures if the Colts Decide to Move On

After recent underperformances in the Colts QB battle, Richardson’s future seems uncertain. Possible teams interested in him include the Ravens—known for liking dual-threat QBs—and the Rams, who may trade for him this offseason.

5. A Close Call: Andy Reid’s Office Hit by a Bullet

In May 2024, a bullet was discharged into Andy Reid’s office, narrowly missing him. The incident, only reported recently, occurred during early hours at the Chiefs’ practice facility. No arrests have been made, but security measures have since been improved.

6. Extra Points: Former Coach Wants Jim Harbaugh to Face Suspension

The last 24 hours in the NFL revealed much, including Urban Meyer advocating for Harbaugh’s suspension amid his recent NCAA sanctions. The Chargers are reportedly in a position of concern regarding their receivers as Chris Godwin’s injury could affect his availability for the start of the season.
