Injury Update on WNBA Star Napheesa Collier: Misses Game Against Fever
Napheesa Collier, star player for the Minnesota Lynx and a leading candidate for the WNBA MVP, is sidelined for their upcoming game against the Indiana Fever due to an ankle injury.
Napheesa Collier, a standout player for the Minnesota Lynx and a leading contender for the WNBA MVP title, will miss the game’s matchup against the Indiana Fever this Friday. Collier has been absent since suffering a sprained right ankle on August 2. She was initially listed as questionable but went through pre-game warm-ups before being ruled out.
Her injury occurred during a significant 53-point victory against the Las Vegas Aces, raising questions about Collier remaining in the game given how lopsided the score was. Coach Cheryl Reeve remarked:
“I don’t think about those things. It’s the third quarter of a game on someone else’s floor, I don’t think the game is over… It’s unfortunate and hopefully she’ll be OK.”
Translation: Coach Reeve addressed concerns regarding player safety and game management during a blowout situation.
Fortunately, Collier’s injury has not been as severe as initially feared, and her absence will account for only seven missed games, even as the Lynx secured a strong record of 4-2 during her time off.
Looking ahead, the Lynx have already clinched a playoff spot and will likely secure the No. 1 seed as they push for the playoffs. In Collier’s absence, A’ja Wilson has surged in the MVP race, demonstrating her prowess as the Aces have ridden a nine-game winning streak, highlighted by multiple 30-point performances.
As for her individual stats, Collier continues to lead the league with an average of 23.9 points along with 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists along with exceptional shooting percentages. Despite her injury, she remains the betting favorite for the MVP title, indicating that her return will be a significant factor in the ongoing race.
