What’s Next for Tottenham After Losing Eberechi Eze to Arsenal? A Potential Solution in Man City’s Savinho

Tottenham looks for attacking reinforcements after an unsuccessful summer window highlighted by losing Eberechi Eze to rivals Arsenal.

In what has become one of the most peculiar offseasons witnessed, Tottenham Hotspur is still in pursuit of an attacking midfielder, although not for a lack of effort. The club has reached agreements twice for a midfielder but both deals fell through at the last minute.

Currently under the direction of former Brentford manager Thomas Frank, Spurs are back in Champions League action and need to bolster their squad to compete effectively. With a match against Manchester City approaching, the spotlight is once again on Tottenham as they search for reinforcements.

Without James Maddison due to injury, the attacking burden is higher, and while Pape Sarr performed decently in a recent match against Burnley, facing a team like City presents a different challenge. As Tottenham juggles four competitions, depth is vital.

“The club is determined to strengthen the squad with players who fit our needs,” Frank stated before the upcoming City match.

Breakdowns in Moves

Initially, Spurs planned to acquire Morgan Gibbs-White by activating his release clause, but a legal dispute threatened the deal, leading Gibbs-White to sign a new contract with Nottingham Forest. Subsequently, Tottenham shifted their focus to Eberechi Eze.

Despite initial optimism, the deal was disrupted when Arsenal’s Kai Havertz suffered an injury, enabling the Gunners to quickly finalize an agreement to bring Eze to their squad instead.

However, Tottenham’s need for an attacking midfielder remains, and they are considering Savinho from Manchester City. A winger rather than a traditional number 10, Savinho is noted for his ability to play across the front line. The team is looking for a dynamic player who can drive the ball forward, shoot, and create opportunities, particularly in light of Maddison’s absence and Son’s recent move to Los Angeles FC.

Potential Signings

Savinho could significantly enhance Tottenham’s attacking options. He might thrive under the pressure of regular Champions League football. Despite a quieter season at City, where he managed a goal and eight assists, he is still an enticing prospect given his past performances in LaLiga with Girona. The young talent has the potential to evolve into a key contributor for Spurs.

In less ambitious talk, Everton’s Dwight McNeil could also be a solid choice, providing strong defensive coverage while contributing both goals and assists. However, McNeil dealt with injuries last season, raising questions about his reliability.

Lastly, in emergency scenarios, Andreas Pereira from Fulham might be a fallback option. While not a game-changer, he adds versatility and experience, making him a sensible choice if urgent cover is needed later in the window.
