Orlando Pride's Barbra Banda Out for the 2025 Season After Injury

Barbra Banda, the standout forward for the Orlando Pride, will miss the remainder of the season due to a significant adductor injury, a critical setback for the team as they aim for playoff success.

The Orlando Pride are facing a crucial challenge as they chase a second consecutive NWSL championship title. Barbra Banda, the team’s leading forward, has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2025 regular season. This decision follows the announcement of her hip adductor longus tendon injury, confirmed by the club on Saturday. With eight goals in 16 matches, Banda’s absence will be felt significantly.

“We are devastated to announce Barbra Banda has been placed on the Season Ending Injury list following the soft-tissue injury she sustained during our recent match against Kansas City Current,” stated Haley Carter, the Orlando Pride’s Vice President of Soccer Operations.

The injury occurred during a match on August 16 against Kansas City, which was delayed for three hours due to extreme heat conditions. Banda, who joined the team in 2024, has made a remarkable impact with 25 goals and seven assists in 41 games. She was a finalist for the 2024 NWSL MVP and clinched the NWSL Championship MVP, leading the Pride to their first championship title while also being named to the 2024 NWSL Best XI First Team. Additionally, she has been twice nominated for the Ballon d’Or.

In response to the setback, the Pride have secured Lizbeth Jacqueline Ovalle, a world-record signing, to strengthen their roster. Ovalle is contracted through 2027, with an option for 2028.
