The Detroit Lions have made a notable decision by waiving former third-round pick quarterback Hendon Hooker. According to NFL Media, Hooker leaves the team after limited participation in just three games over the past two seasons, completing 6 out of 9 passes for 62 yards. Just this offseason, Kyle Allen won the backup quarterback spot, leaving Hooker’s future uncertain.
With only four preseason games, Hooker completed 22 out of 40 attempts, along with zero touchdowns and three interceptions. Lions coach Dan Campbell expressed the potential benefits of a fresh start for Hooker following a challenging preseason.
“How much development do you believe there still is? Sometimes, does the player need a change of scenery?” — Dan Campbell after the final preseason game.
Hendon Hooker was drafted 68th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft from the University of Tennessee, where he had an impressive 2022 season as the SEC Offensive Player of the Year, finishing with a staggering 3,135 yards and 27 touchdowns.
