The Houston Texans have announced that running back Joe Mixon will be placed on the reserve/non-football injury list, sidelining him for at least the first four games of the season. This decision follows Mixon’s earlier placement on the active/non-football injury list due to a foot injury reported before training camp began.
Teams must activate players off the non-football injury list by Tuesday at 4 p.m. E.T. If cleared medically, Mixon may resume practice and playing after the fourth regular season game. The early part of the Texans’ schedule includes matchups against the Los Angeles Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tennessee Titans.
Mixon’s return is anticipated for the Week 5 game against the Baltimore Ravens on October 5.
To offset Mixon’s absence, the team has acquired veteran Nick Chubb and drafted Woody Marks in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Last season, Mixon missed four games due to an ankle issue but managed to rush for 1,016 yards in 14 games, marking his third 1,000-yard season, with 11 rushing touchdowns to his name. He also made 36 receptions for 309 yards and one touchdown as a pass-catcher, earning his second Pro Bowl selection. The former second-round pick began his NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals.
