Tennessee Signs Coach Josh Heupel to Contract Extension Until 2030

Tennessee extends head coach Josh Heupel's contract through January 2030 as he leads the Volunteers into a new season.

Tennessee and coach Josh Heupel have finalized a contract extension lasting until January 2030, as announced by the university. This agreement comes just four days prior to the Volunteers’ season opener against Syracuse in Atlanta.

“The revival of our football program under Josh’s leadership has made everyone in Big Orange Country proud to be a Vol,” stated Tennessee athletic director Danny White. “Josh has restored Tennessee Football’s esteemed status among the nation’s elite programs, and he and his team have nurtured a constructive culture. Our commitment to supporting Josh and his staff is steadfast.”

Heupel has achieved double-digit wins for Tennessee in two of his last three seasons, including the team’s inaugural College Football Playoff appearance in 2024, finishing the year at ninth in the AP Top 25 poll.

With a record of 37-15 after four seasons, Heupel has not experienced a losing season. Notably, he has led his squad to 11 victories against ranked teams, which ranks fifth all-time in Tennessee history.

Heupel expressed gratitude towards White, President Boyd, and Chancellor Plowman for their support:

“I greatly appreciate the backing of Danny White, President Boyd, and Chancellor Plowman. Their leadership and commitment during these changing times in college football help us in building a championship program. Since taking over in 2021, we have established a resilient, player-driven culture and achieved significant successes, yet there is more work ahead.”

He added:

“I am excited about the future of Tennessee Football, and I can’t wait to run through the T once again with Vol Nation proudly supporting us.”
