USMNT Roster: Pulisic Returns as McKennie is Omitted for September Friendlies

The US Men's National Team's roster has been revealed for the upcoming friendlies against South Korea and Japan, with notable exclusions and key returns.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino has finalized the US Men’s National Team (USMNT) roster for the upcoming friendlies against South Korea and Japan, which are critical as the team prepares for the World Cup. After the disappointing results in the Concacaf Nations League and the Gold Cup, the pressure is on the squad, especially for Christian Pulisic, who returns after resting during the Gold Cup.

However, not all key players are included. Notably, Weston McKennie has been left out, a decision made due to his lack of games this preseason after his Club World Cup commitments with Juventus. Pochettino commented, “He knows what he can provide, but […] players need to show their value.”

While Pulisic is back, neither Matt Turner nor Zack Steffen made the squad, leaving Matt Freese as the only experienced goalkeeper called in. Pochettino intends to provide opportunities for emerging talents, with four players potentially earning their first caps. The time is limited as the World Cup approaches, making these matches crucial for roster decisions.

“All players are significant, and making decisions based on performances is essential as we look to finalize our roster.”

As the countdown to the World Cup continues, this camp plays a vital role in shaping the USMNT’s future.
