Tarleton State Stuns Army with Overtime Victory: The First FCS Win Over FBS in 2025

In a thrilling match, Tarleton State broke Army's 17-game win streak against FCS opponents, delivering a notable upset in double overtime.

Tarleton State achieved a remarkable 30-27 victory over Army in a thrilling double overtime match on Friday. This win ended Army’s 17-game streak against FCS teams and marked the first FCS win over an FBS opponent in the 2025 season. The decisive moment came when the Texans’ kicker Brad Larson successfully converted a 37-yard field goal during the second overtime period.

Previously, Army had not lost to an FCS team since 2015, a streak that was prolonged by their kicker Dawson Jones, who missed a crucial field goal attempt near the end of regulation and another attempt in overtime that could have led them to victory.

As the game progressed, the Texans recovered from trailing 24-10 with a strong performance, scoring 14 consecutive points to tie the match and force overtime. This win will be pivotal for Tarleton State as they prepare for their next game against Mississippi Valley State on September 6. Meanwhile, Army, coming off a strong previous season with a record of 12-2, will face Kansas State the same day.
