Giannis Antetokounmpo Excluded from All-Star Game Due to Injury
Milwaukee forward Giannis Antetokounmpo will miss the upcoming All-Star Game because of a left calf strain.
Milwaukee forward Giannis Antetokounmpo will not participate in the upcoming All-Star Game due to a left calf strain, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The source, who wished to remain anonymous, noted that the NBA has yet to announce a replacement, which is expected to be determined by Commissioner Adam Silver.
Antetokounmpo was leading the fan votes for the All-Star Game, which is set to take place in San Francisco on February 16, featuring a new mini-tournament format. He missed the Bucks’ game against Philadelphia due to this injury, with two additional games scheduled for Milwaukee before the All-Star break—Monday against Golden State and Wednesday against Minnesota.
Antetokounmpo was set to play on Team Chuck, which was drafted by TNT analyst Charles Barkley. He was the fourth player picked out of 24 drafted players.
Team Chuck’s roster includes notable international players: Nikola Jokić, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Victor Wembanyama, Pascal Siakam, Alperen Sengun, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Donovan Mitchell.
Additionally, there might be another All-Star replacement needed soon. Anthony Davis, who recently joined the Dallas Mavericks, exited his debut game due to tightness in his groin and quadriceps. He has also been managing an abdominal strain that previously sidelined him.
“It’s nothing serious,” Davis stated.
