Cynthia Cooper Compares Angel Reese to Herself, Lauds Sky Forward and Other Rising WNBA Talents

WNBA legend Cynthia Cooper expresses her admiration for Angel Reese and other young stars in the league during a recent interview.

WNBA icon Cynthia Cooper shared her thoughts on Angel Reese, a forward for the Chicago Sky, noting that Reese reminds her of herself in her early career. In a recent interview with We Need to Talk Now, Cooper acknowledged Reese’s focus and resilience amidst challenges.

“I need to give a shout out to Angel Reese,” Cooper remarked. “She just gets down to business. A lot of stuff has been thrown her way. She keeps her circle tight and she stays focused on her game.”

Cooper praised Reese’s support from Lisa Leslie, an eight-time WNBA All-Star, emphasizing Reese’s dedication to improving both as a player and a person. Cooper appreciates Reese’s close rapport with her mother and her ability to maintain a strong presence on the court.

“She reminds me of me when I was starting out and I didn’t care,” Cooper stated. “Say what you want to say. I’m bringing my A-game tonight. You’re gonna have to stop me from getting all these rebounds.”

Cooper has a wealth of experience, having won two Olympic medals and four WNBA championships, and she sees great promise in Paige Bueckers, now a rookie with the Dallas Wings. Bueckers tied Cooper’s rookie record for points in a game, scoring 44 against the Los Angeles Sparks on August 20th.

“You can always tell who’s going to make a great pro by what they do off the court,” Cooper highlighted, praising Bueckers’ level-headed approach.

Lastly, Cooper also expressed her admiration for another young talent, Caitlin Clark, a star for the Indiana Fever, wishing her a swift recovery from injury and encouraging her to return stronger.

“So heal, sweetheart, let your leg heal. When you come out, you’re firing on all cylinders. You’re better than the Caitlin Clark we saw your rookie year.”
