Alabama WR Ryan Williams Enters Concussion Protocol, Day-to-Day Ahead of Upcoming Game

Alabama star wide receiver Ryan Williams is dealing with a concussion as the team prepares for their next matchup against Louisiana-Monroe.

No. 8 Alabama’s unexpected defeat against Florida State stood out as a shocking result from the opening weekend of college football. The Crimson Tide, heavily favored, fell short with a 31-17 loss in Tallahassee. Compounding their challenges, standout wide receiver Ryan Williams sustained a concussion after suffering a notable hit late in the game.

Alabama’s coach, Kalen DeBoer, addressed the media on Monday, indicating that Williams is currently in concussion protocol and is manning a ‘day-to-day’ status while the team gears up for their Week 2 game against Louisiana-Monroe.

Despite a subdued performance with five receptions for 30 yards against Florida State, Williams was a standout performer during his freshman year in 2024, tallying 48 receptions for 865 yards and eight touchdowns. In his absence, Germie Bernard is expected to be the focal point of Alabama’s passing strategy. Bernard already exhibited strong chemistry with quarterback Ty Simpson, racking up eight catches for 146 yards in the recent match.

Looking ahead to their next challenge against the Warhawks, the Alabama team is expected to proceed cautiously with Williams as they aim to regain momentum before hosting Wisconsin in their Week 3 matchup. The timeline for Williams to clear the concussion protocol remains a key focus for the team.
