2025 NFL Week 1 Power Rankings: Eagles Begin Strong, Bills Set for a Promising Finish

An insightful look at the current standings of NFL teams as the season kicks off, with a focus on the Eagles and Bills.

The first set of NFL Power Rankings can often be revealing and, as some might say, haunting. These rankings are made right before the season commences, and usually, by the time Week 18 rolls around, I find myself contemplating how my predictions could have been so off. But that’s part of the excitement of the league—the unpredictability.

The Philadelphia Eagles, who claimed victory in the Super Bowl last February, commence this season in the top position of my rankings—a well-deserved accolade for the defending champions. However, it does not mean I project them to finish in that spot. The challenge of repeating success is significant, particularly in their division, where no team has successfully repeated since 2004. I believe they’ll break that trend and win the NFC East this year, but they won’t return to the Super Bowl.

Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills occupy the second ranking, poised to take it all this season. With Josh Allen back as their MVP quarterback and a formidable offensive line, they possess the tools needed to excel. Although they lack a definitive top receiver, their passing game is robust enough.

The key to their success will hinge on a solid defense, with a talented and deep defensive line. If Joey Bosa can remain healthy, the Bills could be formidable defenders when it counts. Currently, their schedule favors them, as they won’t need to venture deep into the West.

All together, I see the Bills as a potential 13-win team capable of securing the top seed and qualifying for the Super Bowl with a couple of wins.

I predict they’ll face the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl. The Packers, the youngest team in the league last season, gained valuable experience that should benefit them as they transition from Year 1 to Year 2 and Year 2 to Year 3. They bolstered their team by acquiring Micah Parsons, a dynamic edge player who can significantly affect games.

If quarterback Jordan Love manages to stay healthy, the Packers should win the NFC North, making it to the Super Bowl.

Thus, the matchup I foresee is Bills-Packers, with the Bills emerging as champions this time. This indeed seems to be their year—a moment finally realized for their fans. For now, the Bills will have to remain satisfied with being ranked second in the Power Rankings.
