Najee Harris Clears for Contact Ahead of Game Against Chiefs

Najee Harris, the Chargers running back, has been cleared to participate in contact practices and is hopeful to play in the upcoming Week 1 match against the Chiefs after an eye injury sustained in a fireworks incident.

Najee Harris, the running back for the Los Angeles Chargers, has been approved for contact practices as he prepares for the team’s season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. Harris incurred an eye injury during a fireworks incident on July 4 but is optimistic about his participation in Friday’s game. Chargers’ coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed that Harris is cleared for contact.

Harbaugh noted a “possibility” of Harris playing in the opening game in Sao Paulo, with Harris mentioning that he has practiced multiple times and is getting back into football shape.

“Najee Harris just spoke for a few minutes, said he’s expecting to play Friday but is ‘ramping up to it’ and ‘seeing where it raises us.’”

Harris expressed his gratitude, stating,
“It’s a humbling experience, obviously. But I still haven’t really shaken it—I’m still going through it in a way. Just that whole situation shows how things can change in an instant. It’s a blessing that we wake up every day, and I’m just happy that everyone is safe and we’re alive.”

Harris made his return to practice on August 12 after being limited to individual drills during much of the training camp and preseason.

Now, he looks forward to making his Charger debut after signing a one-year, $9.5 million deal to join the team this offseason after starting his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
