The top players from the 2024 NFL season will wear distinctive gold-trimmed patches during the 2025 season, marking a new first. The NFL will allow winners of five Associated Press awards to wear a gold shield patch inspired by the NFL Honors logo, as reported by ESPN.
The honorees include MVP Josh Allen from the Buffalo Bills, Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles, Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain II of the Denver Broncos, Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels from the Washington Commanders, and Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Verse of the Los Angeles Rams. These players will proudly display their gold patches during the season.

In the first game of the season, expected on Thursday night, fans will witness this innovation as the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Eagles, take on the rival Dallas Cowboys. Barkley, having previously rushed for a record 2,005 yards in the regular season, took the Offensive Player of the Year title but chose not to play in the regular-season finale to prevent injuries as the Eagles rested their starters ahead of the playoffs.
