Las Vegas is a fitting place for risks, and Jakobi Meyers is betting on himself as he navigates the concluding year of his contract with the Las Vegas Raiders. After requesting a trade during training camp, Meyers is set to take the field this Sunday in the Raiders’ season opener against the New England Patriots.
During a media event on Wednesday, Meyers responded to a question about his long-term journey with the team, stating:
“We’ll see where the chips fall,”
Translation: Let’s see how things turn out.
Last season, at 28 years old, Meyers surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in his career, setting personal records with 87 receptions and four touchdowns. He believed those achievements warranted a contract extension during the off-season.
“I feel like I earned it,” Meyers stated. “I was hoping it would get finalized. I think I proved enough to justify my position here. I expected that recognition, but they don’t agree. That’s okay; it is what it is. I’ll do it all over again.”
Translation: I think I deserve it; I thought they’d see it my way, but they didn’t. I’m not worried and will continue to show my value.
Meyers is entering his seventh season and third with the Raiders and is expected to be a major receiving option alongside tight end Brock Bowers for new quarterback Geno Smith.
