Knicks Express Interest in Ben Simmons Amid Career Uncertainty
Ben Simmons, a former No. 1 pick, faces a dilemma about continuing his NBA journey, attracting attention from the New York Knicks among other teams.
With just over a month until the 2025-26 NBA season begins, three-time All-Star Ben Simmons remains a notable free agent without a contract. The New York Knicks and another NBA team have expressed interest in him. However, Simmons, at age 29, is currently questioning whether he wants to continue his career in the league, as reported by the New York Post.
Simmons, selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, has had a tumultuous career path. He was named Rookie of the Year, earned three consecutive All-Star selections from 2019 to 2021, and was a two-time first-team All-Defense pick. Despite these accolades, he has struggled with injuries, playing only 108 games over the past four seasons, especially following a difficult separation from the 76ers. Last season, Simmons split time between the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 5.0 points, 5.6 assists, and 4.7 rebounds.
If the Knicks were to sign Simmons, it would likely be in a reserve capacity as they come off a strong playoff showing, making it to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000 after a busy offseason. They recently parted ways with former coach Tom Thibodeau and appointed Mike Brown, a former coach of both the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Lakers, in his place.
