NBA Close to Finalizing New All-Star Game Format

The NBA is on the verge of finalizing a fresh structure for this season's All-Star Game, involving three teams in a round-robin competition.

The NBA is nearing the completion of a groundbreaking format for this season’s All-Star Game, which would feature three teams: two from the United States and one comprising international players. This new structure will have the teams competing in a round-robin tournament, according to a knowledgeable source who requested anonymity as the plan isn’t yet finalized.

Moreover, the league’s competition committee has seen the details and responded positively to the concept. The anticipated lineup includes 16 All-Stars from the U.S. and eight international players, following the current composition of NBA athletes.

While the notion of a straightforward U.S. versus the World game has been considered, Commissioner Adam Silver indicated that this could be challenging due to the greater number of American players within the league. Currently, about 70% of players are American, and around 30% are from abroad, reflecting a similar ratio for All-Stars under the proposed structure.
