Amari Cooper Announces Retirement Ahead of 2025 NFL Season

After signing with the Raiders last week, veteran wide receiver Amari Cooper has decided to retire just days before the new season.

Amari Cooper, who recently rejoined the Las Vegas Raiders on a one-year contract, has decided to retire just three days before the upcoming season begins. After a decade in the NFL, Cooper’s retirement marks the end of a significant chapter in his career.

Cooper, a five-time Pro Bowler, informed the Raiders that he no longer wishes to play football. The 2025 season was anticipated to be a fresh start for him joining one of his former teams, yet he will not participate in their opener against the New England Patriots.

Previously, Cooper had a productive stint with the Cleveland Browns, completing 2023 with 1,250 receiving yards and five touchdowns over 72 receptions. He finishes his career with over 10,000 receiving yards and ranks among the top wide receivers in recent NFL history.

A Look at the Raiders’ Wide Receiver Situation
Despite the unexpected retirement of Cooper, the Raiders have made preparations to secure their receiving corps. Key players expected to step in include Geno Smith as their new quarterback and the recent draft picks aimed at bolstering the offensive lineup.
