Espanyol issued a statement condemning Barcelona’s Mapi Leon for a gesture deemed “unacceptable” which violated Daniela Caracas’s privacy during a Liga F match. In the 15th minute, video footage showed Leon inappropriately touching Caracas, an act that sparked widespread criticism.
Official Statement
Espanyol stated:
“RCD Espanyol de Barcelona wish to express our complete discontent with, and condemnation of, the events that took place last Sunday. In this game, there was an action that we consider unacceptable and that should not be overlooked.”
Additionally, they expressed concerns over the online abuse directed toward Caracas following the incident, offering legal support if needed.
Barcelona’s Response
Later that day, Barcelona released a statement from Leon denying any inappropriate intent, and also mentioned the potential for legal action if necessary. FUTPRO, a union for Spanish women soccer players, has since reached out to all parties involved to clarify facts and is prepared to take appropriate measures.
Despite the incident, neither Liga F nor the Royal Spanish Football Federation have made any public comments regarding the matter.
