Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks and Kyrie Irving of the Dallas Mavericks have been selected as injury replacements for the upcoming NBA All-Star Game. Young will fill in for Giannis Antetokounmpo, while Irving takes Anthony Davis’s place.
Antetokounmpo is sidelined due to a calf strain, and Davis is out with an adductor strain following his debut with the Mavericks.
This marks Young’s fourth All-Star selection and Irving’s ninth. Young is averaging 23.5 points, 11.4 assists this season, while Irving is averaging 24.1 points and 4.8 assists.
New All-Star Game Format
The All-Star Game will include three separate games with a new format featuring three All-Star teams, each comprising eight players. The teams were drafted by Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, and Kenny Smith, with Young joining Team Chuck in place of Antetokounmpo and Irving filling in for Davis on Team Shaq.
The events will take place in San Francisco, starting Friday, including a skills challenge and other activities.
