The Atlanta Falcons had a narrow defeat against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a score of 23-20 in their season opener, and they were without their key player, Drake London, for the latter part of the game. London exited the match with approximately two and a half minutes to go, suffering from a shoulder sprain, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Further testing is expected, but he is currently considered day-to-day leading into Week 2.
The injury occurred during a critical moment when London appeared poised to score a go-ahead touchdown. Michael Penix Jr. connected with him in the end zone, but London could not secure the catch and landed forcefully on his right shoulder.
While Penix managed to score with a four-yard run subsequently, the absence of London was felt as the team struggled to extend their scoring opportunities. They settled for a field goal attempt that went awry, missing a chance to potentially tie the game.
London showcased his skills with a team-high of eight receptions before being sidelined. If he cannot play, the Falcons will have to face the Minnesota Vikings this week without their leading receiver. Previously, London has developed strong synergy with Penix, notably during a remarkable game where he had 18 targets and made 10 catches for 187 yards and two touchdowns.
