Florida’s defensive lineman Brendan Bett faces an uncertain status for this Saturday’s matchup against No. 3 LSU following his ejection for spitting on South Florida offensive lineman Cole Skinner during the Week 2 game. Coach Billy Napier stated that Bett’s availability has yet to be determined after the incident, which occurred late in the fourth quarter as Florida lost 18-16.

The spitting incident happened on a crucial drive with just over two minutes remaining. Napier noted that they had spent time with Bett following the event and expressed that he feels remorse over the incident. “He made a selfish decision that compromised the team,” said Napier. “He misrepresented our fans and alumni.”

Given the implications of the penalty during a decisive moment, Bett faces additional internal discipline and will publicly apologize to the team and reach out to Skinner. Napier mentioned, “No stone unturned here in terms of maximizing this for him to learn.”

Florida, now at 1-1, faces a tough schedule ahead, including back-to-back games at LSU and Miami and then hosting Texas. Bett played 29 snaps and recorded five tackles in his last game before his ejection.
