The Green Bay Packers have rewarded wide receiver Christian Watson with a new contract extension worth $13.25 million for one year, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This agreement ensures Watson remains with the team until after the 2026 season.
Currently, Watson is on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list while he recovers from an ACL injury sustained during a game against the Chicago Bears in 2024. “There’s kind of a timeline with these ACLs,” stated Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst last month regarding Watson’s recovery. “He’s ahead of the curve, no doubt about it, but at the same time, he’s got a long career in front of him so we’re going to make sure we don’t skip any steps along the way. More than likely he’ll start the year on PUP.”
After a strong performance in 2024, with 29 receptions for 620 yards and two touchdowns, Watson’s career has faced setbacks due to injuries, including a hamstring issue that limited him to just nine games in 2023.
Watson is expected to have a Week 5 bye which gives him an additional week to heal before he might be available to return against the Cincinnati Bengals on October 12.
The Packers began the season with a successful 27-13 victory over the Detroit Lions, with multiple players contributing to the passing game. Meanwhile, fellow receiver Jayden Reed is also dealing with a foot injury that may affect his play throughout the season.
