Texas Tech Cornerback Amier Boyd Arrested for Reckless Driving
Amier Boyd, a Texas Tech cornerback, has been arrested for reckless driving, allegedly performing doughnuts in an intersection. He faces misdemeanor charges.
Texas Tech cornerback Amier Boyd was arrested on Sunday for reckless driving after being seen doing doughnuts in an intersection. He is facing a misdemeanor charge for driving a vehicle in “willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property.”
Red Raiders coach Joey McGuire stated that the team will manage Boyd’s disciplinary actions internally. He could face a fine of up to $200 and/or 30 days in jail.
“It’s internal discipline actions,” McGuire mentioned on Monday. “We’ll handle it like we have any time in the past. We’ve had a couple before, not many, but we’ll handle that internally.”
The arrest report indicates an officer observed Boyd performing doughnuts at the intersection of 3rd St and Boston Ave, with a passenger hanging out of the rear window. Boyd was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center and his car was impounded.
Boyd moved up the Texas Tech depth chart for their Week 2 game against Kent State and made his first career start, recording one tackle and an interception in the opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Prior to joining Texas Tech, Boyd spent three years at UTEP, where he started five games and accumulated 35 tackles, two interceptions, six pass breakups, and a forced fumble.
