Jalen Carter, defensive tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles, received a fine of $57,222 for allegedly spitting on Dak Prescott, quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, during the NFL season opener. Carter was expelled from the game, which the NFL is treating as a one-game suspension, and is now eligible to play in the upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
While Carter won’t face any further suspensions, his fine matches the compensation for one game, as noted by Jones. The NFL communicated this as though it were a suspension, although Carter has already served it. He has chosen not to contest the NFL’s ruling, with the Eagles agreeing to forgo pursuing clause guarantees in his contract.
“After discussions with the Eagles, the NFL, and the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), Jalen has opted not to appeal and aim his focus on the Chiefs match,” stated Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus in a statement.
Carter’s expulsion was remarkably swift, marking the fastest ejection in an NFL game since September 12, 2005. Following the Eagles’ triumph over the Cowboys, Carter reflected on his actions, acknowledging they were inappropriate and assuring they wouldn’t recur.
