Marcel Reed of Texas A&M Aims to Overcome Run-First Perception

After a transformative offseason, Texas A&M's Marcel Reed is ready to redefine his role as a quarterback in the upcoming season.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — While enjoying fried shrimp in Texas A&M’s expansive athletics cafeteria, quarterback Marcel Reed is focused on his objectives for the upcoming season. After last year’s disappointing performance, he is determined to help the team finish stronger in 2025, reflecting on missed opportunities such as crucial moments against Auburn.

Reed, hailing from a family of athletes, aims to gain muscle and redefine himself within a quarterback-focused identity, despite his prior label as a run-first player. He caught the nation’s attention in a high-profile game against LSU on September 26, 2024, where he made a notable impact.

As he prepares for an upcoming game against Notre Dame, Reed is keen to shift perceptions, emphasizing his intent to be viewed as a proficient passing quarterback. With significant mechanical improvements made in collaboration with his new coach, Jeff Christensen, Reed is striving for a successful 2025 season.

“I came here for a reason, to bring this program everything they want,” Reed expressed, encapsulating his commitment to the team and aspirations for individual accolades like the Heisman Trophy.
