PHILADELPHIA – Za’Darius Smith has spent a significant amount of time in the NFL, transitioning through five teams in a ten-year career.
Smith’s record includes three Pro Bowls and multiple seasons with double-digit sacks. He has left his mark in playoffs, participating in various conference championships.
However, there’s one milestone still missing from his impressive resume: a Super Bowl title. “I’ve seen it all,” Smith remarked, beaming. “Except for the Super Bowl.”
The veteran defensive tackle expresses deep desire to add a championship to his achievements, reflecting on his past near victories, including back-to-back NFC Championships with the Green Bay Packers in 2019 and 2020.
Last week, Smith signed a one-year, $9 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles and is eager to contribute to the team’s defensive line. “Just the whole team and the culture, man,” he shared. “I love everything about it. Hey, they just got a Super Bowl and hopefully we can get it again.”
Smith is determined to bring his expertise to an Eagles pass rush that is in dire need of it, leveraging his considerable experience to guide younger players. Over the past two seasons, he tallied 123 pressures and 14.5 sacks, playing for both the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions.
Despite missing out on a championship experience last season in Detroit, he relishes the opportunity to mentor and lead in Philadelphia, aiming to achieve what has so far eluded him in his career. “I’m still young in the game. I got a lot more left,” Smith said, affirming his commitment to winning and personal growth in his 11th year in the league.
