Derek Carr Open to Future NFL Return Despite Retirement

Former Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr, who retired in May, is not completely dismissing the idea of returning to pro football.

While enjoying life as a retired NFL quarterback, Derek Carr isn’t entirely ruling out a possible future in professional football.

Carr, now 34, hung up his cleats last May after an eleven-year stint with both the Raiders and Saints. He noted that his agent continues to keep him updated on potential NFL opportunities.

“He said, ‘At least give me Thanksgiving to try and convince you,’” said Carr of his agent during a recent appearance on The Dan Patrick Show.

Translation: “He said, ‘At least give me Thanksgiving to try and convince you.’”

When asked if the prospect of returning to football ever crossed his mind, Carr replied, “I wouldn’t say, no, never, because I’ve learned that whenever I say never, it usually happens.”

He enjoys training, throwing around the football for fun with his kids, and continues to rehabilitate a shoulder injury that many speculate influenced his retirement choice.

Despite what he described as a successful career that includes four Pro Bowl selections and being the Raiders’ all-time passing leader, Carr remains cautious about making a comeback.

Currently, he is not keen on returning to play, but he has not closed the door entirely, stating, “I’m not coming back. Like, right now, today, I’m not coming back.”

As he works through his recovery process, Carr is also staying busy coaching his two sons and occasionally mimicking his former coach, Jon Gruden, during practice.

At the moment, it appears unlikely that Carr will return, but he is open to the idea should the right opportunity arise.
