Brock Bowers did not participate in practice on Thursday, as indicated by the Raiders’ injury report, but Coach Pete Carroll remains optimistic that the talented tight end will be ready to face the Chargers in Week 2 during Monday Night Football.
“[Linebacker Elandon Roberts] is not looking at this game like he can’t play, just like Brock,” Carroll stated before the Raiders began their practice. “They’re not looking like that at all. They think they’re playing, so we’ll see what happens, but they gotta practice through the week and make it through it.”
Carroll plans to evaluate both injury situations day by day and anticipates both players will return to practice later in the week.
Bowers, age 22, expressed a similar hope regarding his condition, stating,
“I’m not sure, we’ll see how it’s feeling throughout the week, but I’m hoping to play.”
If Bowers cannot participate, Michael Mayer would fill his position; Mayer caught four passes for 38 yards in the season opener.
The former Georgia standout had a rookie season record with 112 receptions last year, leading all rookie tight ends with 1,194 receiving yards.
