Lamar Wilkerson Donates Six Figures to Sam Houston Following Transfer to Indiana

The former Sam Houston guard generously gives back to support his alma mater after transferring to Indiana.

Indiana guard Lamar Wilkerson is giving back to his former school. After transferring to the Hoosiers this year from Sam Houston, Wilkerson announced that he made a significant six-figure donation to support his alma mater.

Wilkerson, ranked as the No. 45 player in the 247Sports transfer rankings, committed to Indiana earlier this offseason after spending three successful years at Sam Houston, where he became known for his impressive three-point shooting.

Why did he decide to give back? He expressed a strong desire to see his former school prosper. “I did it out of love, man,” Wilkerson shared. “I did it out of love for coach (Chris) Mudge, for just Sam Houston. I’d built a family there and wanted to continue seeing them improve over time.”

Coming off a standout season averaging 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists, Wilkerson entered the transfer portal after achieving remarkable success as a shooter. Ultimately, he chose Indiana over programs like Kentucky and Auburn.

Coach Chris Mudge was amazed when he received the news about Wilkerson’s donation, stating, “I was like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, you’re not coming back,’ and not because I didn’t want him to—I just couldn’t believe it… his loyalty is remarkable.”

Wilkerson is part of an impressive group of talent that has joined Indiana this offseason under new coach Darian Devries. Together with fellow transfers Tucker Devries from West Virginia and Reed Bailey from Davidson, they are set to make significant impacts in the upcoming season.
