Unlocking Bryce Underwood: Michigan's Freshman Quarterback Shines in Dominant Victory

In a remarkable outing, Bryce Underwood showcases his talents as Michigan's quarterback, leading the team to a significant win against Central Michigan.

When No. 23 Michigan faced Central Michigan this week, Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore was absent. The unique Biff Poggi stepped in as interim, taking the reigns while Moore dealt with a suspension related to a sign-stealing investigation.

Coincidentally or not, Michigan鈥檚 true freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood displayed a relaxed demeanor reminiscent of Poggi’s signature style during a commanding 63-3 victory.

In the game, Underwood utilized his elite skills, completing 16 of 25 passes鈥攖wo of which were drops鈥攁nd making four throws exceeding 20 yards, including a precise 32-yard touchdown to Semaj Morgan.

While Michigan’s matchup against Oklahoma presented a greater challenge, Underwood’s passing was less effective, with only five attempts traveling more than 20 yards and half of them under 10 yards. His standout play came via a 44-yard jump ball to Donoven McCulley.

Underwood’s athleticism truly shone through, garnering comparisons to Vince Young. He rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries, with scores from 18 and 20 yards, including a fourth-and-1 scramble that sealed the win.

Even if Moore contributed to the game plan while suspended until Saturday morning, it鈥檚 critical for Michigan’s coaching staff to learn from Underwood’s success and trust his abilities.

Considering Underwood鈥檚 talent, it鈥檚 essential for Michigan to support him, despite his status as a freshman. His only mistake occurred when he underthrew a pass that resulted in an interception, giving Central Michigan their only score.

Ultimately, as Michigan gears up for their Big Ten opener against Nebraska, they must embrace Underwood’s potential. It鈥檚 time to allow their star quarterback the freedom to showcase his skills.
