Oklahoma's R Mason Thomas Excluded from First Half Against Auburn After Targeting Ejection

Oklahoma defensive lineman R Mason Thomas will miss the first half of the upcoming game against Auburn after being ejected for targeting against Temple.

Oklahoma defensive lineman R Mason Thomas was ejected during Saturday’s Week 3 match against Temple due to a targeting penalty. Consequently, he will be suspended for the first half of the highly anticipated Week 4 clash with Auburn.

His removal from the game is unlikely to hinder the Sooners, who were leading 28-3 at the time of his ejection. However, Thomas’s absence will be felt as he is a standout player within the All-SEC team, impacting the team as they commence conference play, especially with Jackson Arnold making his return to Norman.

Upon review, officials classified Thomas’s hit on Temple quarterback Evan Simon in the third quarter as targeting, reversing their earlier decision of a roughing the passer.

Thomas made an impressive mark last season, boasting career-high statistics across the board. He recorded 23 tackles, including 13 tackles for loss and 9 sacks, the latter ranking him among the top players in the conference for sacks. In the previous season, he excelled during Oklahoma’s game against Auburn, achieving a season-high of four tackles and securing two sacks, showcasing his remarkable capabilities as one of the leading edge rushers in the SEC.

Moreover, the Sooners have already secured a victory this season against a ranked team, defeating the then-No. 15 Michigan last week. Although the Tigers have yet to face a top 25 opponent, they did manage to defeat their only Power Four competitor, securing a win against Baylor in their season opener.
