Blue Jays Set to Promote Top Pitching Talent Trey Yesavage

The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly calling up their top pitching prospect Trey Yesavage, who was drafted in the first round of the 2024 MLB draft.

The Toronto Blue Jays plan to call up their promising right-handed pitcher Trey Yesavage to the major leagues on Monday, according to a report from Sportsnet. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches tall, Yesavage has swiftly ascended the ranks after being the Blue Jays’ first-round draft pick (20th overall) from East Carolina in the 2024 MLB draft.

Yesavage, aged 22, began his season at Class-A Dunedin with seven starts, followed by four at High-A Vancouver, eight at Double-A New Hampshire, and six at Triple-A Buffalo. He holds an impressive record of 5 wins and 1 loss, with a 3.12 ERA and 160 strikeouts compared to 41 walks across 98 innings.

R.J. Anderson, a prospect guru at CBS Sports, recognized Yesavage as the Blue Jays’ top prospect at the season’s commencement. Anderson notes that Yesavage’s pitching mechanics are distinguished by a steep release point and various effective pitches including a rising fastball, a curveball, and a splitter.

His unique delivery is characterized by a short stride and a high arm slot, which allows him to effectively generate vertical movement on his pitches rather than horizontal. This approach has made him a formidable opponent in minor leagues. However, it’s yet to be determined if he will play as a starter or reliever in the majors, especially with a robust rotation that includes established pitchers like Shane Bieber, José Berríos, Chris Bassitt, Max Scherzer, and Kevin Gausman.

Currently, the Blue Jays lead the AL East with a record of 86-62, holding a three-game advantage over the second-place New York Yankees.
