Scheffler Triumphs Over Griffin at Procore Championship Ahead of Ryder Cup

Scottie Scheffler secured his sixth victory of the year at the Procore Championship, edging out Ben Griffin while preparing for the upcoming Ryder Cup.

In a tournament typically reserved for golfers needing to secure future qualifications for the PGA Tour, Scottie Scheffler showcased his dominance yet again. Competing for the first time at the 2025 Procore Championship ahead of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, Scheffler displayed the prowess expected from the world No. 1, overcoming a two-stroke deficit to win by one stroke at an impressive 19 under.

Marking his sixth victory of the year, Scheffler joins Tiger Woods as the only men with multiple seasons of 6+ wins on the PGA Tour since 1983. His overall PGA Tour victories have reached 19, with an astounding streak of 15 consecutive top-eight finishes.

The PGA Tour grants lifetime membership to golfers winning twenty tournaments and completing 15 seasons; for Scheffler, it’s merely a question of when this will happen.

“I knew I was going to have to have another really good day. I was chasing down some pretty talented guys on the leaderboard,” said Scheffler. “I got off to a good start on the front nine and did some good stuff on the back nine and fortunate to be the winner this week.”

As the leader of the U.S. Ryder Cup team, which used the Procore Championship as a final preparation for the upcoming event, Scheffler experienced a sluggish start, breaking his streak of 21 consecutive sub-70 rounds with an opening 2-under 70.

He eventually played the final three rounds in 17 under, highlighted by weekend scores of 64 and 67. Scheffler started the final round strong with three birdies in the first seven holes, but Ben Griffin, initially four strokes behind, quickly closed the gap. However, as Griffin found himself unable to maintain his pace, Scheffler seized the opportunity.

“Scottie and the flag stick are not friends 😒. He is now tied for the lead through 10”PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR).

Near the end of the tournament, Griffin, a two-time 2025 winner, made a birdie on No. 15 that brought him within one stroke. Unfortunately for Griffin, he faltered with a missed birdie opportunity on the final hole.

“Coming up just short in Napa. Ben Griffin misses his birdie putt on the 72nd hole to force a playoff”PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR).

Scheffler’s victory at the Procore Championship has once again showcased his strength at this level, with anticipation for the Ryder Cup looming on the horizon.
