The Cleveland Browns started the season with a 0-2 record after a heavy defeat at the hands of Lamar Jackson and the rival Baltimore Ravens, who won 41-17. Joe Flacco managed to complete 25 of 45 passes for 199 yards, contributing one touchdown along with one interception during his return to Baltimore. This performance prompted inquiries about a potential change in quarterback for the Browns.
“I don’t think it’s fair to talk about that right now,” stated head coach Kevin Stefanski following the game, as reported by The Athletic. “We win as a team. We lose as a team.”
Stefanski affirmed Flacco as the starter despite him not participating in the preseason. Rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders currently hold the second and third positions on the depth chart. The team opted to release Tyler Huntley and also traded Kenny Pickett.
In a previous game, they narrowly lost to the Cincinnati Bengals with Flacco completing 31 of 45 passes for 290 yards, achieving one touchdown but suffering two interceptions.
“I can’t worry about that stuff anyway. It’s honestly not on my mind,” Flacco responded to questions about the possibility of a quarterback switch, via ESPN. “I gotta go out there and just play my game, play the way I know how to lead this team the best I can.”
Although the Browns are currently not considering a quarterback change, the prospect remains on the table as the season progresses. With the first two weeks indicating trouble, they may risk enduring a second consecutive losing season unless adjustments are made.
