The United States women’s national team will round off the calendar year with two friendly matches against Italy, who were semifinalists in the 2025 UEFA Euro. Following October matches against Portugal, these two teams will meet in Orlando, Florida, on November 28 and complete their year in Fort Lauderdale on December 1.
This will be the first encounter between Italy and the U.S. in over ten years; their last meeting was during the FIFA Women’s World Cup playoff in 2010. In that matchup, the USWNT won 2-0, progressing to the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
As both teams enter this friendly with notable momentum, the USWNT has recently secured victories over Ireland, while Italy aims to build on their semifinal performance in the women’s Euros. Le Azzurre is currently ranked 12th worldwide and suffered a defeat due to a last-minute goal in extra time against the subsequent Euro champions England.
“As we prepare for World Cup qualifying at the end of 2026, we want to play teams from all parts of the world with different styles and strengths. Playing against Italy, one of Europe’s rising teams, will be a fantastic way to conclude the year,” stated Emma Hayes, head coach of the USWNT.
“This year has been quite fruitful for our team as we learn about each other while embracing our philosophies and standards. We look forward to two more games against a quality team to continue our development.”
The year 2025 marks a significant moment for the USWNT as they celebrate their 40th anniversary, concluding it against the Italy squad, who were their very first opponents in history back in 1985. They faced each other in the inaugural international match for the USWNT, which ended in a 1-0 loss for the U.S.
