J.J. McCarthy's Ankle Injury Could Keep Vikings QB Out for a Month

The Minnesota Vikings face another setback as J.J. McCarthy's ankle sprain could sideline him for up to four weeks.

The Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, has suffered an ankle sprain and is unlikely to participate in the Week 3 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to head coach Kevin O’Connell. This injury could keep McCarthy out for two to four weeks.

The team will rely on backup quarterbacks due to McCarthy’s absence. Bengals star Joe Burrow is also expected to miss the game with a toe injury. Carson Wentz will likely start for the Vikings, while Jake Browning will lead the Bengals.

O’Connell expressed his concern over McCarthy’s recovery, stating, “Just the toughness to get that thing taped up and keep playing. That is something that we were able to determine today, so obviously tough news there.”

Despite his limited experience in the NFL, McCarthy showed promise in his debut against the Chicago Bears, earning a pair of touchdowns. However, in the subsequent game against the Atlanta Falcons, he struggled with two interceptions and multiple fumbles. McCarthy had previously missed the entire last season after undergoing surgeries for a torn meniscus.
