Revisiting Myles Garrett's Trade Request and Contract Extension Amid Frustrations

As Myles Garrett's frustrations with the Browns continue to grow, we explore his recent contract extension and trade potential going into Week 3 against the Packers.

NFL trades can vary significantly in their outcomes. Recently, two elite defensive players found themselves in very different scenarios regarding trade requests. Myles Garrett, a prominent player for the Cleveland Browns, initially asked for a trade earlier this year and subsequently expressed reluctance to sign an extension with the team. Ultimately, he managed to secure a record four-year, $160 million contract, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history at that time.

Another example includes Micah Parsons of the Green Bay Packers, who had his trade request from the Cowboys granted after a series of negotiations. This Sunday, both players will face off when the 2-0 Packers visit the struggling 0-2 Browns.

Garrett’s desire to win a Super Bowl has increasingly fueled his frustrations with the Browns, who have been struggling this season despite his exceptional performance on the field.

Garrett’s Frustrations with the Browns

Garrett, reflecting on his experiences with the Browns, stated:

“As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl – and that goal fuels me today more than ever. My love for the community of Northeast Ohio and the incredible fan base of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life… I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.”
Translation: Garrett realizes the tough choice made in balance of personal ambitions and loyalty to the fanbase.

Despite his success, it appears Cleveland is struggling, raising speculation about a possible trade this season. As Joel Corry, a CBS Sports analyst noted, trading Garrett may be more feasible in the offseason when they can maximize draft choices.

Garrett and Parsons will be aiming for the Defensive Player of the Year award this season, heightening the competition between them in their upcoming matchup.
