The undefeated Indianapolis Colts are set to begin their AFC South campaign against the Tennessee Titans. Despite a challenging previous season, the Titans are looking forward with optimism thanks to rookie quarterback Cam Ward.

Despite modest statistics, with 50.8% of passes completed and an average of 143.5 yards per game, Ward has shown promise, especially given the tough defenses he has faced. His debut touchdown came last week against the Los Angeles Rams on a remarkable play where he demonstrated his ability to escape pressure and deliver a risky throw to fellow rookie Elic Ayomanor.

Ward’s successful completion of this pass defied a mere 14.2% completion probability, showcasing his talent despite the risky nature of the throw. Next Gen Stats reported that this 9-yard throw traveled an impressive 42.3 yards in the air.

Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin expressed hope that Ward will attempt similar risky throws again. “I hope he throws that play again. It wasn’t a good throw, but he’s a talented player. He can make all those throws, his arm angle is exceptional,” Franklin remarked, citing Ward’s skills as the reason he was the number one overall pick.

The Titans have struggled in the passing game this season, with Ward being sacked a league-high 11 times already. However, Capitalizing on the opportunity, the Colts are preparing to face Ward, who is now their fifth number one overall rookie quarterback to face in succession since 2020.
