Assessing the Panic Levels for NFL Teams Starting 0-2: Dolphins, Bears, Chiefs, and Giants

An overview on whether NFL teams that opened the season with losses should be worried, focusing on key teams and their upcoming games.

A poor start in the NFL can quickly transform into a disappointing season, as history shows teams that begin with two losses rarely recover. Since 1990, less than 13% of teams starting 0-2 have reached the playoffs. Despite adding an extra game and more playoff spots, that figure remains unchanged. The stakes are high for the ten teams currently at 0-2 as they head into the critical Week 3.

Since 2020, only 12.2% of teams have made the playoffs after starting 0-2, while those starting 2-0 have a much better chance at 78.6%. The following teams could start feeling the pressure:

  1. Dolphins
    Opponent: at Bills (TNF)
Concerns loom over Miami’s coach as they head into a crucial matchup against a strong Bills team, needing a win desperately.

  2. Giants
    Opponent: vs. Chiefs (SNF)
With a challenging home game against 0-2 Chiefs, the Giants must secure a victory after a disappointing performance against the Cowboys.

  3. Browns
    Opponent: vs. Packers
Struggling offensively, the Browns are in a tough spot facing a formidable Packers defense.

  4. Saints
    Opponent: at Seahawks
With not much playoff hope, securing a win in Seattle is a tall order for the Saints.

  5. Titans
    Opponent: vs. Colts
Facing the Colts, the Titans need to turn their luck around.

  6. Jets
    Opponent: at Buccaneers
The Jets hope to rally under backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

  7. Panthers
    Opponent: vs. Falcons
The Panthers seek to build on a recent competitive effort.

  8. Bears
    Opponent: vs. Cowboys
With defensive struggles, the Bears face a challenging matchup against the Cowboys.

  9. Texans
    Opponent: at Jaguars
This matchup is crucial for the Texans, needing a win to shift momentum.

  10. Chiefs
    Opponent: at Giants (SNF)
The Chiefs need to rediscover their winning form facing the Giants.
