The Atlanta Falcons announced on Friday their decision to part ways with kicker Younghoe Koo, who ranked as the third top scorer in the franchise’s history. Replacing him will be John Parker Romo, who excelled in his limited opportunities, successfully scoring on all three field goals and an extra point during the Week 2 victory against the Minnesota Vikings.
Koo, 31, has been with the Falcons since 2019, participating in 89 games with a field goal accuracy of 86.8% and an extra point conversion rate of 96%. Despite his record, recent performance led to this change, as he missed a critical 44-yard attempt in their opening week defeat against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was absent from the following game for non-injury reasons.
Koo had a standout 2020 season, leading the NFL with 37 field goals, but noted struggles last season, managing only 73.5% accuracy. The Falcons now look to Romo as their primary kicker as they prepare for an upcoming match against the Carolina Panthers.
