Following his benching in favor of rookie Jaxson Dart, New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson addressed reporters on Wednesday, expressing his commitment to continue aiding the team. Wilson, who was acquired this offseason as a bridge quarterback, played only three games before handing over the reins to Dart.
Amid the Giants’ dismal 0-3 start, Wilson had inconsistent performances, with a standout 450-yard, three-touchdown game against the Dallas Cowboys sandwiched by weaker showings against the Washington Commanders and Kansas City Chiefs. The crowd in MetLife Stadium jeered Wilson, leading to chants calling for Dart.
Wilson emphasized his role as a leader for the Giants, especially towards Dart, stating that he has no plans to request a trade or release.
“For me personally, I’m not done. I’ve got so much belief in myself and I know what I’m capable of. I know I can help this football team if that comes up.”

Wilson shared that his perspective was enhanced after a visit to a local children’s hospital, reinforcing the importance of how one responds to challenges.
“Life is about response,” he said. “I know I’m going to respond in the right way every day.”
Despite calls for a change at quarterback, Wilson remains focused on helping the team win and developing his partnership with Dart.
